Compare tip management tools
Kickfin, TipHaus and 7shifts all automate tip pooling and connect to other systems — payouts, POS, time clock or payroll. TipLedger is a smaller, standalone tool: you enter the figures, it applies your rules, and you export a CSV.
When TipLedger may be easier
For a single-location restaurant that wants to type in each shift’s sales and tip figures, set its own tip-out rules, check each staff member’s breakdown and download a CSV — without connecting a POS, time clock or payroll system.
The tradeoff: manual entry is work every shift. If your POS or time clock can feed an integrated product, that can save entry time, and those products also handle things TipLedger doesn’t, such as paying staff.

Read the comparisonHow to choose
- Write down your actual tip-out rules and check each tool can express them.
- Decide whether you want figures pulled from your POS or time clock, or are happy entering them yourself.
- Decide whether the tool needs to pay staff, or only calculate and record.
- Check what staff can see and what the export looks like for your payroll provider.
- Try it with one real week of your own numbers before committing.
What TipLedger doesn’t do
Manual entry takes time every shift — products that connect to your POS or time clock can save that work. TipLedger does not run payroll, pay staff, connect to a POS or payroll provider, or calculate or file taxes. You set the tip rules and are responsible for reviewing results and following the laws that apply to you.
Separately, we take inquiries for a paid Payroll Bookkeeping service. It is not included in any plan, has no free trial and can’t be purchased yet. Learn more.
